In an effort to extend access to inexpensive medical insurance coverage, Access Health CT recently launched a latest special enrollment period for low-income residents.
As a part of the trouble, there are two Access Health navigator locations in Connecticut that provide free, in-person help outside of the regular open enrollment periods. They’re the Community Renewal Team in Hartford and Project Access in Recent Haven.
Based on Caroline Lee Ruwet, director of selling for Access Health CT, the brand new special enrollment period creates access to no-cost or very low-cost plans made possible through subsidies within the American Rescue Plan Act. Lee Ruwet explained that to be eligible, Connecticut residents should be latest or returning customers who are usually not currently enrolled in a medical insurance plan through Access Health CT. Applicants should be eligible for Advance Premium Tax Credits and have a household income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.
Those that enroll in the course of the special enrollment period, which began April 25, can have coverage start on the primary of the month following enrollment. Plans proceed throughout 2022 unless the improved subsidies are prolonged beyond 2022 through federal laws, Lee Ruwet said.
“Access Health CT is committed to creating access to inexpensive medical insurance coverage,” she said. “This special enrollment period leverages enhanced subsidies to assist Connecticut residents access the care they need at cheaper prices.”
Jacqueline Sánchez, program coordinator and Access Health CT navigator at Project Access-Recent Haven, said that although they haven’t had a number of traffic for the special enrollment period, it is useful to have the in-person help for clients, specifically within the Recent Haven area, where there’s a big Hispanic community. In addition they offer translation services for individuals who need assistance with other languages.
Sánchez said the enrollment specialist makes the clients feel comfortable as they’ll see the screen by which their information is being typed. As well as, Sanchez mentioned that filling out the applying could be overwhelming for individuals with learning disabilities or anxiety, which is why having the in-person help can also be helpful. She said clients from Guilford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Fairfield and Recent Haven visit Project Access to get help signing up for insurance.
